Within the border, the text 'Congregational College' is in a Gothic typeface, and the words 'of British North America' are in a simple sans-serif. 2. [Bookplate for Congregational College of British North America] The bookplate has a geometric border with elaborate corner designs. The border is a simple 'X' interwoven pattern, and the corners have small crosses or 'X' on them. Within the border, the text 'Congregational College' is in a slightly more elaborate typeface than the remaining text, which is a simple serif font. 3. [Bookplate for Congregational College of Canada] There is an elaborate border with geometric designs and stylized flowers, and within this at the top of the bookplate is the crest of the Congregational College of British North America. Under the crest, the words 'Library of the Congregational College of Canada' are written in several different fonts, with the words 'Congregational College' the largest and most prominent. Underneath this is a space for information to be entered, although it has been left blank. 4. Wrapped around the top and bottom branches are banners bearing the quotation 'DREAMS BOOKS ARE EACH A WORLD AND BOOKS / WE KNOW ARE A SUB-STANTIAL WORLD.' In the center of the border appears the name of the owner. 9. [Bookplate for Claude Lamont Wheeler by C. Collmen] Printed in black on white or cream paper. In the upper left corner of the bookplate appear the words 'NULLA DIES SINE / LINEA' followed by four upward pointing arrows or crosses. To the right in the upper center of the bookplate appears a framed portrait of a horned figure (the devil?). The center of the bookplate shows the caricatured figure of a man sitting at a roll top desk. His tall wooden chair leaves his feet dangling above the ground. The man holds a lit cigar in his left hand and quill pen in his right hand. The desk, the wastepaper basket to the right of it, and the floor around it are littered with sheets of paper. Several books, as well as an owl and a human skull sit on the top of the desk. To the left, an over-sized pair of scissors leans against the man's chair. To the right of the desk appears the name of the illustrator, C. Collmen(?). Below the illustration appears a white bordered box with the words 'Ex Libris,' below which appears the name of the owner. 10. [Bookplate for Claude Lamont Wheeler] Printed in black ink on greenish gray paper, the bookplate consists of a two line border surrounding the name of the owner. In the lower left corner appears the word 'No.' followed by a dotted line for the addition of a hand-written number. The number '33' has been written in ink. 11. [Bookplate for Nicholas Garry] Printed in black ink on off-white paper. In the centre is a family shield, decorated with with a chevron pattern in solid black and white ground with a spotted pattern. A ‘V’ shape in the centre of the shield intercepts and counterchanges the chevron colours. Above this is an extended arm in armor holding a circular disc that repeats the pattern on the shield. 12. [Bookplate for William Greening and Cornelia Greening by A. N. Macdonald] Black ink on cream paper. Elaborately decorated frame surrounds three round images, two small ones atop a larger, oval one. The border has a shelf-like appearance with the top featuring a series of curling, heart-shaped decorations with a large, spiraling curlicue extending to the left and right. The very centre of the top element features a leaf-like decoration pointing upwards. The top half of the sides of the border features symmetrical leafy curlicue decorations that extend downwards with a pseudo-fleurs-de-lis to a line of elaborate floral decorations. The large oval image extends to the sides of the borders and below the oval are decorations on both the left and right sides. The left side features a tennis racket entwined in leafy decoration. The right side contains golf clubs in the same leafy decoration. Leafy decoration also surround the two small images inside the border, which are connected by two wrapping ribbons in the centre. The image on the left features an explorer holding a walking stick and wearing a hat looking out onto a nature landscape. The landscape includes water and a mountain topped with clouds. The image on the right contains a road curving to the right. The right side of the road features foliage, including several palm trees. The large, central image shows a house with some of its garden in the foreground. The forefront of the image is a simple lawn, followed by several small trees on the left with plants in barrels, a table, and several chairs on the right. Between the trees and chairs is a path leading further into the garden and towards the house. The house is quite large and has at least two stories and a sheltered porch. Towards the other end of the house and garden are taller trees. Below the images is a rectangular box with a border. The border consists of two thin white lines with a darker centre between them. The centre of the rectangle contains text written in capitalized serif font in varying sizes. Below the rectangle, the artist’s name and date of creation is written in small, sentence-case serif font. Handwritten note in pencil on the back. 13. [Bookplate for Dickens Fellowship] This pictorial bookplate features green ink on green paper. Morning-glories create a floral frame to the text, at the bottom of which is a picture of Dickens. 14. [Bookplate for Alex Thistlethwayte] In black ink. This bookplate consists of an escutcheon or (gold), a bend azure (blue), charged with three pheons of the field. The rococo vegetative mantling around the upper part of the escutcheon includes a straight wreath charged with a demi-lion. The lion is holding a pheon and situated above a peer helmet. Below the escutcheon several cherubs drink, trumpet and hold aloft an ermine trimmed cloak. The cloak serves as a backdrop for a framed compartment displaying the originator's name. 15. [Bookplate] In black ink. Argent [White or Silver], charged with an oak tree. On a fess, azure [Blue], a crescent, between two molets. Above the escutcheon is a straight crest wreath on which is a cubit arm, erect, issuing from a cloud, in the hand a branch of olive, all proper. Below the escutcheon is a banner containing the Latin motto. 16. [Bookplate for Lachlan Gibb] In black ink. This bookplate's design features an escutcheon with or (gold), azure (blue), and sable (black) designs, parted per cross and charged at the fess point with an additional coat of arms. The escutcheon is outlined by an ornate border and situated in the center of a rectangular frame, divided into quadrants. These sections feature a domed building, topped with a cross, a ship, three battle-axes and three beavers, respectively. The originator's Latin motto and name appear along the base of the frame. Above the rectangular design are two straight wreaths charged with a dexter arm vambraced couped, holding aloft a battle-axe and an eagle bearing a tilting spear. 17. [Bookplate for George H. Fensom by Walter Lohse] Black and yellow ink on thick, cream coloured paper. This bookplate features a well-lit, paned window framing a rearing Pegasus. Plants and vines surround the window. 18. [Bookplate for George H. Fensom by Thoreau MacDonald] In black ink. Landscape featuring a cabin overlooking a lake. 19. [Bookplate for National Prison Reform Association] In black ink on white paper. Image includes a rectangular decorative border in a repetitive pattern. Within the border all of the text is in a capitalized sans serif font, except the owner's name, which consists of upper and lower case letters in a serif font. 20. [Bookplate for Grace Svenningson] In black ink on white paper, two columns frame the sides of the bookplate, with a banner stretched behind them at the top. Thick vines are hanging from the banner, and a few are wrapped sparsely around the columns as well. There is an urn on the bottom left with some gentle hills in the background.
