[Bookplate for F. J. Jackman] Black ink on cream colored paper. A border of trefoils with stems that circle around in a simple curlicue houses the name and number of the bookplate. 22. [Bookplate for Frances Mary Richardson Currer] This heraldic bookplate consists of a stylized escutcheon, with a pale counterchanged per fess. Sections one and six are parted per cross, with quarters one and four sable (black), with a chief argent (silver), charged with three lions erased. Quarters two and three consists of a barry of eight ermine and azure (blue), with a chief azure, charged with a lion passant guardant. Section two is azure, with a simple bend or (gold), charged with two heads of a stag. Section three is azure, with a bend engrailed and or, charged with three martlets. Section four is ermine, with a cross engrailed and sable. Finally, section five is vert (green), with a bordure engrailed and or, charged with a stag's head. Below the entire escutcheon is bookplate owner's name. 23. [Bookplate for Frank Strowbridge and Elsie Strowbridge] In black ink on white paper, a simple, decorative border runs around the edge of the bookplate. There is an image of a large white ship at sea, behind an ocean wave, in the top half of the bookplate. In the lower half is the text, which is separated from the image above by what looks to be a depiction of coil binding. There are faint ink smudges in the top left corner, one along the lower left edge, and a couple along the bottom of the bookplate. There are also a few faint marks across the text. 24. [Bookplate for Gabrielle Labelle] Black ink on cream paper. The border consists of two black lines on the left and right-hand sides. At the base of each side are black decorative spiraling lines. The top and bottom portion of the border are more elaborate. These borders are thicker with a thin black line on either side and a thick black line in the center. The border is wavy with the lines slanting on either side towards the center of the border. On the top and bottom center of the border is a small half circle decorated with black stripes. In the upper righthand corner of the bookplate is text printed in a stylized serif, capitalized, black font. In the middle of the bookplate is a drawing of a woman sitting at a tall desk reading an open book. The desk is narrow and tall with cupboard at the back. The cupboard is round at the top and the doors are decorated with simple slanted lines. The woman has her hair up and is wearing a dress with puffed sleeves decorated with a simple flower. The skirt of the dress is extremely large and round. The skirt extends out across the entire bottom half of the bookplate. Part of the skirt is decorated with stylized spiral lines and a flower. At the base of the skirt, the bookplate owner’s name is printed in a stylized cursive, black, sentence case font. 25. [Bookplate for George H. Beans] This is simple black and white monogram design. Within a shield-shaped border is a simple plant growing from three mounds. The text is outside the border at the top and bottom. 26. [Bookplate for George Kerr] Grey ink on green-grey paper. The bookplate is in the shape of a rectangle with rounded corners and a bulging circle in the center. The top portion of the bookplate features a half circle basic graphic of the sun on the horizon. The design is created using simple lines. Surrounding this image are half circles of various sizes with thick borders on the outside and several thinner inner borders on the inside. The circle shape in the center has a thick border decorated with two thick black lines that are intersected by plain crisscrosses three times each on the left and right-hand sides. There are some decorative shapes at the top of the circle, forming a small point. Below those shapes text is printed in capitalized, block, grey letters. The center of the circle depicts a man in a wig and robe reading a large book. The spine of the book and face of the man are facing the viewer. The background of the image is comprised of thin, black, horizontal lines. The bookplate owner’s name is printed below the image in large, capitalized, block serif grey font. Decorative shapes like the one at the top of the circle extend from the bottom as well, forming a larger point. The base of the bookplate is decorated with various rounded shapes, in both oblong and tear drop shape, filled with thinner black lines. A plain section extends from the bottom left and right corners up to the middle of the bookplate, meeting the text at the base of the central circle. In these sections are printed mottos in smaller, capitalized, sans-serif font. 27. [Bookplate for Glazebrook] Black ink on cream paper. Design has some heraldic features. At the top of the bookplate is a banner featuring black, serif, capitalized font. The banner sits atop a stylized castle with multiple towers and a circular wall. Behind the castle to the left and right extend wing-like features. In front of the castle is a shield argent with sable dots charged with a sable lion passant. Shield has a sable chief charged with three argent fleurs-des-lis. Armorial helm with mantling is topped with a sable demi-lion rampant wearing a crown atop a crest-wreath. The bottom of the bookplate features a rectangle designed to look like stylized wooden panels. It features large, capitalized, bold black serif font. The words are separated with floral decorations, each of a varying design. The first flower is found with six more pointed petals, a black centre, and two leaves. The second flower is smaller and rounder, but of similar design to the previous one also with two leaves. The last floral decoration looks like a maple leaf with a simple stem. 28. [Bookplate for H. Schofield] A textual bookplate with a simple border. 29. [Bookplate for Henry Calder] A simple bookplate, with the name typed in a gothic font. The four corners of the bookplate are cut out in a scalloped shape. 30. [Bookplate for High School of Quebec] Printed in black ink on cream paper, a simple geometric border of diamonds surrounds the text printed in multiple fonts. 31. [Bookplate for Hôpital Général d’Ottawa No. 6] Stamped in black ink on textured, yellowed paper. In the centre, a white cross is depicted on top of a mound of earth. At the centre of the cross, the Catholic icon of the Sacred Heart is depicted: a heart with a flame above it. From the earth, a vine of ivy grows and weaves around the cross. This image is framed by two banners above and below, which bear two phrases in French: “J’ÉTAIS MALADE ET VOUS M’AVEZ VISITE / JE SUIS L’ APPUI DU FAIBLE.” This is enclosed within a circle, which is framed by another circle with a scalloped edge that contains the identification: “SOEURS GRISES DE LA CROIX / OTTAWA.” The entire image is framed with a single black-line border of a wavy line with simple scrolled decorative marks at all four corners. 32. [Bookplate for J. Rumsey] Printed in black ink, a simple linear border with sparsely set flowers surrounds the text. The seal in the center of the bookplate displays an image of the Calvary Church. 33. [Bookplate for Jack Pears] Textual bookplate with a monogram reading John Pears surrounded by a simple frame. 34. [Bookplate for James Blackman] This simple bookplate consists of text encircled by two curved branches. 35. [Bookplate for James Lee] Brown and red ink on cream paper. A thick brown border surrounds the bookplate. Inside is a thin red border. Underneath the top of the red border are two leaves printed on the left and right side of block, capitalized, serif text. At the base of the red border, text is printed in the same block letters in a slightly larger size. There is a second thin red border within the first one, inside of the block text. Inside this border is the image of a man sitting indoors reading a book. The man has long hair tied with a bow in the back and is wearing a long dark coat and large pants cropped at the knee. He also has simple shoes with bows on his feet. He is sitting in a large wooden chair and smoking a pipe. Behind him to the right is a window with diamond patterns. To the left of the window is a small frame with little detail. The man and his chair are in profile. In front of them, half a round table is visible. A small vase and a thin glass are atop the table. At the man’s feet, a small black cat lies curled atop a closed book. 36. [Bookplate for Jean Dessaulles] Black in on white paper. Text in center surrounded with a simple square border of stars. Handwriting on the bookplate in brown and red ink. 37. [Bookplate for Joseph Bemrose] In black ink on tan paper, a simple gold border frames a light pastel-green crosshatched background. 38. [Bookplate for June Lauritzen by J. G.] A simple outline of a rose which has been hand-coloured with pink for the petals, green for the leaves and brown for the stem. 39. [Bookplate for Lieutenant Colonel E. L. Caldwell] A simple line border surrounds the text. There are small circles framing each corner. 40. [Bookplate for P. Mackenzie] This simple heraldic bookplate consists of a cubit dexter arm clutching a downward-pointing arrow.
