[Bookplate for John Caton Thompson] In black ink on white paper, this bookplate consists of a shield parted per pale, baron and femme, three coats ; first, or, a bordure, argent, a lion rampant ; second, parted per fess, sable, on a chevron argent, between three swans' heads, two over one, erased at the neck, ducally gorged, three pellet one over two ; in base (same as second) sable, on a chevron argent, between three swans' heads, two over one, erased at the neck, ducally gorged, three pellet one over two. Above a straight wreath, the crest of a lion rampant, ducally gorged. Below the shield, laurel sprigs. At the bottom of the ex libris appears the name 'John Caton Thompson.'. 2. [Bookplate] Image shows both the recto and verso of the sample bookplate sheet produced by the Globe Wernicke Co. of Cincinnati, Ohio. The sheet contains two sample bookplates. The one on the left, in colour, shows two white swans on a water-lily spotted lake. On the distant shoreline, one can see among the green foliage the rooftop and chimney of a home. The image is framed by an oval floral border on a yellow and white background. The second sample bookplate, on the right, shows a pirate on a beach, either burying treasure or digging it up. On the pale blue water of the horizon, a ship sits in wait. The sample bookplate sheet is divided into four sections by perforated lines. The recto also includes a mail order form for more sample bookplates and a booklet on "The World's Best Books". The verso includes the reverse of the mail order form, complete with place for a stamp, and also an advertisement for Globe-Wernicke bookcases. 3. [Bookplate for Lionel Damer] In black ink, this bookplate consists of an escutcheon, divided barry of six pieces, nebule, argent (silver) and gules (red), and a bend, engrailed, azure (blue). At the precise middle chief is a crescent, the symbol of the second son. The escutcheon also contains an inescutcheon, divided per cross. The first quadrant, argent, contains an unknown symbol, possibly a garbe, sable (black). The fourth quadrant, also argent, contains two of the same symbol. The second quadrant, divided per fess, or (gold) and azure (blue), contains two swans with wings displayed. The third quadrant is the same, except it contains only a single swan. The crest is an oval frame containing a talbot's head in a crown. Above the crest is floral mantling which extends down both sides of the escutcheon. Below the escutcheon is a banner containing the Latin motto. 4. [Bookplate for Charles Fyfe by R. P.] Bookplate printed in black ink, with a purple/blue ink, rubber-stamped annotation. This ex-libris depicts a woman reading to a young boy on a park or garden bench. The idyllic landscape behind them features a lake with two swans swimming in it. Further in the distance is a forest with the silhouettes of two figures standing among the trees and large dramatic clounds sweeping by in the background. 5. [Bookplate] A coat of arms with mantling: Quarterly, 1st and 4th azure, 2 bars dancetty or, in chief 3 bezants ; 2nd and 3rd azure, a fess engrailed argent, surmounted by another, not engrailed, gules, charged with 3 roses argent, between as many swans, proper. Above the coat of arms are two crests: left is a swan gorged, wings displayed and inverted, on a wreath ; right is a bull at gaze, gorged and on a wreath.
