Notes | Jacques-Cartier was a system of schools for educating teachers located in Montreal, established in 1857 (the boys school) and 1899 (the girls school). The schools included a two-tier system, a Normal school for theory-based education and a Model school for practice-based education. In 1914, the school became the Provincialate for Notre-Dame Province. The school ran until 1969. The logo at the top is near-identical to the "ecole modele" school and the logo of the educational journal, "Le Journal de l'Instruction Publique" (published from 1857-1879 in Montreal). This version of the logo includes a Latin phrase instead of a French phrase in the banner. The insignia was created by the famous Canadian engraver John Henry Walker. One hand in black ink addressed the prize bookplate to the recipient. Other notes include that "1er" is added to the prize and that the date is corrected from the pre-printed" 188_" to 1895, suggesting the plates were printed the decade before. The principal's signature is a second hand, also in black ink, illegible at the bottom. References: 1) Renaud, Michelle. "École Normale Jacques-Cartier." Congregation de Notre Dame.
