Notes | A Jas. or James P. Beaty appears in the Toronto city directories at the address hand written on this bookplate between 1889 and 1896 and again from 1900 to 1901, after which he has various other residences in the city. He worked as a 'traveler' (possibly traveling salesman) for Lowden, Paton, & Co before their closure in 1889, and was described as a traveler in later years as well. From 1892 he is intermittently titled 'Captain.' Later directory entries indicate he may have worked at times for Goodman, Rutter, & Co. References: 1) Toronto City directories.
