NotesThe Hôpital Gènèral de Québec was founded in 1692 by Bishop Jean-Baptiste. In 1693 the management transferred to the Augustines of the Mercy of Jesus. It was run by an autonomous cloistered community and the hospital began to expand. In the 18th century, construction led to new wings as well as two mills, two cemeteries, and several other buildings. It served as a military hospital during the Seven Years' War (1756-1763) and many soldiers were buried in its cemeteries. The 19th and 20th century saw further expansion as more wings and buildings were added, including a laundry, menagerie, and garden house. The Hôpital Gènèral de Québec is currently a long-term care hospital. The property was classified as a heritage site in 1977.
