Notes | William Arnold Bromfield (1801-1851) was an English botanist, born in Boldre, New Forest, Hampshire. He entered Glasgow University in 1821 and took his degree in medicine in 1823. He had independent means, however, and did not need to make a living from medicine. During his undergraduate years he studied plant life in the Scottish highlands. William West, the creator of this bookplate, was a print artist based out of London.
