| Notes | Herbert Fairbairn Gardiner was born on August 21, 1849 in Brockville, Canada to James Gardiner and Matilda Fairbairn. Herbert Fairbairn Gardiner wrote Nothing but names: an inquiry into the origin of the names of the counties and townships of Ontario, published in 1899. He was also a local newspaper editor in Hamilton, Ontario. Gardiner created scrapbooks that are now in the Special Collections Department of the Hamilton Public Library. He died in Hamilton on October 25, 1924.
