| Description | This heraldic bookplate consists of an escutcheon, gules (red), with a fess, or (gold). Above the fess at dexter and sinister chief, the escutcheon is charged with two birds, possibly pelicans, wings addorsed and inverted. Above the escutcheon is a ducal crown without a cap, which is charged with the same bird, wings addorsed and inverted. Below the escutcheon is a banner, with Latin motto inside. |

| Notes | Heraldic crest belongs to the family of Lechmere of Fownhope Court, Hereford. Possibly belonging to John Scudamore Lechmere (b. 1850), the first son of Thomas Lechmere (b. 21 Dec. 1818), who married Elizabeth, daugher ot Rev. John Eckley of Credenhill Court, Hereford on 7 May 1846. Thomas Lechmere was the first son and heir of Capel Lechmere (m. 26 May, 1817, to Mary Walker, of Mordiford) ; Capel Lechmere was the son of the first John Scudamore Lechmere (d. 28 Jan 1801, m. Catherine, daughter of John Whitmore), the heir of Scudamore Lechmere, who married Jane, the second daughter of Edmund Pateshall of Allensmore, Hereford. Also, according to "The Baronetage of England, " which was published in 1839, it seems that the family seems to have first resided in Hanley-Castle, Worcester. Worcester and Hereford are neighbouring areas of England, part of the modernly dubbed West Midlands.
