DescriptionBlack ink on cream paper. Crest features a lion passant on a crest-wreath. Below the crest is a gentlemen and esquire's helm with elaborate, ribbon-like, mantling extending out and down the entire bookplate. The shield is argent and divided quarterly. The top left corner and bottom right corner are charged in the center with 5 black diamonds. The background pattern features a repeating geometric of three dots atop an arrow with three flared out points at the bottom. The top right corner and the bottom left corner are charged with a cross patonce. Below the shield is a ribbon with a larger section foregrounded and a smaller section closer to the bottom of the bookplate. The motto is printed on that small section in capitalized, sans-serif font. The bookplate owner's name is printed on the foregrounded section in larger capitalized serif font. Below the ribbon is small text printed in sans-serif font.

NotesEdward Feild Hebden was from Hamilton, Ontario. He married Mary Henderson in September 1884 and the couple had two sons and three daughters. Hebden studied at Hellmuth College in London, Canada and also studied in Heidelberg and Switzerland. In June 1871, Hebden was a junior with the Merchants Bank of Canada in Hamilton. He became Joint Manager in Toronto and was called to Montreal in 1896 as Superintendent and Chief Inspector, positions he held until May 1905 when he became General Manager of the Bank. He is pictured on the February 1, 1916 Merchants Bank of Canada $10 bill and the January 3, 1917 Merchants Bank of Canada $5 bill.
