NotesThomas Aylwin (1729 - 1791) was born in Romsey, Hampshire, England and moved to Québec after he married Lucy Susannah Cushing in Boston on 11 September 1771. Thomas Aylwin was a Québec and Boston merchant and Québec justice of the peace. The Dictionary of Canadian Biography notes that his library had over 50 volumes. There is an Aylwin Library bookplate in this collection. Winward Prescott has an entry in "A List of Canadian Bookplates" for the same "Aylwin, Thoms." However, the motto that Prescott lists reads "Je n'oublierai pas, " which is a slight variation from the motto on the bookplate in this collection. "Je n'oublierai pas, " means "I shall not forget."
