| Description | This heraldic bookplate consists of an escutcheon, divided per quarter, with quarters one and four sable (black), with a chevron argent (silver), charged with three antlers, two over one. Quarters two and three are vert (green), with a dancette fess ermine. At the centre of the escutcheon is an inescutcheon, which is also divided quarterly and features charges of cross crosslet fitched and beasts. The escutcheon is supported by two lions rampant, each with a dancette collar. Above the escutcheon is a Earl coronet, and below the escutcheon is a banner with Latin motto within. This bookplate is similar to BP MUR ENG P S664b, which is presumably owned by the same individual, but before his ascendancy to title. |

| Notes | Bookplate owner is John Somers (1788-1852), Earl Somers, Lord Viscount Eastnor of Eastnor Castle, Herefordshire, Baron of Evesham, Worcester, who rose to his title after his father's death in 1806. According to the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography, the first baron Somers, also John Somers (1651-1716), was a well known lawyer and politician ; notably he helped write royal speeches and aided in the establishment of what is now known as the Bill of Rights.
