Notes | Ludger Gravel (1864-1933) was a prominent Montreal businessman in oil distribution and automobile parts. He was also known to the public as a generous philanthropist and zealous collector. He was a decorated Canadian citizen, having received medals from the governments of China and France. Gravel was made a Knight of the Order of the Holy Sepulchre in 1926. The bookplate features a coat of arms that draws heavily from the insignia of the Order, including the gold helmet and red Jerusalem Cross. References: 1) "Ludger Gravel Fonds (P091)." McCord Museum.
