NotesAnother knotwork bookplate of Catherine Aishton's was found in a copy of "The Tried and True Cookbook of St. George's, " which was published in 1921, at the Thomas Fisher Rare Book Library at the University of Toronto. The book, which presumably belonged to Catherine Aishton also contained a letter on personal stationary confirming that Catherine Aishton, of Montreal, also went by the name Kate Aishton-Mercer, wife of Robert Jewett (d. 5 April 1928). There is an inconsistency with the spelling of Mercer, which has also been spelled as Mercur. The Art Institute of Chicago has a 16th century cheese dish that was a gift of Kate Aishton Mercur, and a painting from her collection is also up for auction, which suggests that she was perhaps an art and antiquities collector.
