NotesThe Brockville Public Library (BPL) was officially formed in July 1895 out of the Brockville Mechanic's Institute (founded 1842). For some time before this official founding, the library existed alongside the Mechanic's Institute as the Brockville Library Association. In 1902 the BPL received a grant from Scottish-American industrialist Andrew Carnegie to build a new library, which was officially opened in 1904. The library was expanded in 1971 and again in 1994-6. The tie between the Brockville Library and the Brockville Public Library can be noted in examining another BPL bookplate in the Thomas Murray Collection, which was layered over a bookplate for the Brockville Library (see bookplates BP MUR CAN I B7635d and BP MUR CAN I B7635e for details).
