| Notes | Bookplate probably belonged to the merchant Charles J. S. Bacon [1829-1878]. He had six children with his wife Mary E. From oldest to youngest they were Mary (b. ~1861), Sarah/Sophie (b. ~1864), Charles (b. 1866), Frank/Frederick (b. ~1870), Carolina (b. 1875), and Lillian (b. ~1877). Charles Jr. died at age 6 in 1875 from whooping cough. Bacon himself died on April 8, 1878 from pleurisy. A copy of this ex libris is also available in the Philippe Masson Ex Libris Collection at McGill University.
