NotesDunbar Brown Jr. (1860-193-?) was the son of Dunbar Browne Sr. and Maria Browne and the oldest of several siblings. He was briefly a teacher and then embarked on a career as a clerk and printer, working for nearly 30 years for John Lovell & Son, Ltd, noted as the printers of Montreal's directories. He appears to have never married. The dating of this bookplate has been based on the similarity to BP MUR CAN P B76964, which belonged to Browne's father, Dunbar Sr. The similarity suggests they were created at the same time. The stamp on this bookplate suggests that Dunbar Jr. lent a book to his father in jail, as no suggestion has been found that Dunbar Jr. himself was ever imprisoned, while Dunbar Sr. was imprisoned for 5 years after being convicted of embezzlement.
