Notes | Owner may have been Alex Watters (c. 1875'June 18, 1944), president of Plow and Watters Ltd., a financial and commercial printer in Montreal. Born and educated in Montreal, Watters became associated with printers B. Plow and Co., later founding the company of Plow and Watters Ltd. in 1922 with B.K. Plow. Watters became president of the company in 1932, and held the position until his death. Watters was also a member of the Thistle Curling Club and a 32nd degree Mason. Watters died on June 18, 1944 at the age of 69 leaving behind a wife, Jessie Watters (nee Plow), two children, and three grandchildren. It is unknown from where the phrase 'Tis Death to Keep' comes, but it may somehow be a reference to Watters' Masonic membership or simply a warning to those who would presume to take and keep his books.
