Notes | This motto is, in British heraldry, traditionally associated with the Elliott [Elliot-Murray-Kynynmound] and Rathbone of Greenbank and Liverpool families. Use of the motto, however, does not indicate any ties to either family without greater supporting evidence. The owner and creator of this bookplate are unknown. This appears to be printed with a combination of die stamping and thermography. The reverse of the bookplate shows that the image was physically embossed (a hallmark of die stamping), but some of the finer details, like the shading on the motto ribbon, are raised on the front but not embossed into the reverse (a hallmark of thermography, which was frequently used to imitate die stamping).
